Prague Impro Room 17.3.2025
If you are looking for a unique and different music experience in the middle of Prague, keep on reading. Last night I found myself in the living room of jazz musicians Kristina Bárt a Marek Urbánek, in a room that had transformed into a jazz club/studio for one night. A club where Czech and international artists can join together for a night exchanging thoughts, news and first of all, jam together. For a music lover this must sound like a small dream come true, and it is in many ways. And here’s the best part of it, which you will love, it’s open to the public! Sounds too good to be true? It almost does, and yet there I was in the middle of the living room breathing this very special atmosphere.
Okay, I have to admit, nothing is never totally perfect, The Prague Impro Room also has its loopholes. First of all, this event takes place only two times a year, so if you missed last night you’ll have to wait until next October, maybe November before the next concert evening, the next date has not been set yet. The other thing to remember is that we are talking about a regular apartment in the middle of Prague, so the amount of tickets sold is set to a maximum of 40 pieces. This of course is perfect, it makes it even more personal and intimate, that is, if you have a ticket! Since there’s no new date yet there’s of course no tickets for sale either, follow my website and I will let you know as soon as I have some information, or be in touch with the source itself at https://kristinabarta.com/.

Something for everybody
And the event itself? I will give a big credit to our hosts, Kristina and Marek. It would have been so easy to resort to the old and already proven concepts but no. The official start of the event was an interview with the night’s guest star, Omri Abramov, an accomplished saxophonist, composer, and producer. Omri’s thoughts about music, life etc. were welcomed and a nice start to the evening. Musically the offer was surprisingly wide considering that the night held “only” three different line-ups. Kristina’s own „Red Landscape“ opened the musical part of the evening, Kristina on the piano and with her was; Petra Brabencová – voc; Filip Kaňkovský – poet; Omri Abramov – sax; Jan Kyncl + sax; Peter Korman – b; Marek Urbánek – dr.
I confess, I’m not acquainted with Kristina’s own work but I was impressed how intense and yet melodically it sounded. Clearly time to expand my music knowledge.

The second set-up for the night was called Jaromír Honzák TRIO, Jaromír Honzák – b; Štěpánka Balcarová – tr; Jan Bára – g. I guess this falls under the headline experimental music, I’m not sure. This also is not my cup of tea, I don’t understand it, so I would be a fool trying to review them in any way. I don’t consider myself a fool, at least not a very big one. The trio got strong ovations, Omri joined in for a tune with his sax and seemed to enjoy it, so…
Jesse Simpson Quartet feat. Omri Abramov ended the musical part of the evening with Jesse Simpson – dr; Omri Abramov – sax; Libor Šmoldas – g; Josef Fečo – b. performing three of Jesse’s own compositions and one bopbe
cover. For me this was a perfect ending to a very interesting night at the living room of Kristina and Marek. This line-up was formed only for this night even though listening to these four gentlemen one could think that they’ve been around for years, but no, they are only very, very good. 😊

An very interesting experience overall. I will definitely try to get myself here in the autumn, and if you want to experience something very special in the world of music, I suggest you do the same.
