Two to tango…

With a well-balanced mixture of covers and own songs Jamie Marshalls Duo, Jamie Marshall – g, voc; Svatka Hlávková Štěpánková – b, voc; took us for a very relaxing and entertaining Saturday afternoon at Jazz Dock summer event Jazz on The Roof. In a Prague that finally got the longed-for summer heat we were waiting for, it’s hard to think of a better setup than what we heard and saw yesterday. Jamie who’s not only a brilliant musician but also a show man down to the fingertips got us smiling more than once, and not to forget the music, his charismatic performance combined with his really good voice forces one to listen even if you don’t want to. 

 

But this is an duo, it takes two to tango, and without Svatka this line-up would not be complete, on top of being a very good bass player she also owns a very special kind of humor that keeps Jamie inside the boundaries and also gets quite a few laughs, especially from the Czech speaking audience, which for example I’m not, so I’m for sure missing out something. 😀  And Svatka also has a great voice, it’s been developing true the years and she also can get her audience dead quiet. For me personally the musical top yesterday was Svatkas version of the oldie “Call Me”, so clear, beautiful and sensitive one could think that this song was made for her and not for Petula Clark. 🙏
