Libor Šmoldas & Martin Hrubec @ U Staré paní 26.2.2025
The domestic meeting last night at the Old Lady between guitarists Libor Šmoldas & Martin Hrubec developed into an invigorating and interesting interpretation of mostly old jazz standards. A performance that would have deserved more audience, that high quality, was last night’s concert. Not that I feel sorry for the musicians, they are both pros enough to enjoy themself at the stage with one or a thousand people to play for, and obviously not for us who were there, since we were offered an unusual night filled with intimisity and emotions just due to the small audience. No, I feel sorry for all of you who didn’t understand to get yourself into the right place at the right time last night, your mistake
our victory
.

Libor has an irregularly regularly recurring event at the Old Lady’s with the name Libor Šmoldas duo where he invites old friends, fellow guitarists, tomorrow’s guitarist etc. to sit in for a night. Libor himself being a world class guitarist normally brings out the best from his guests, last night made no exception. Martin, a former student of Libor, has earned his spurs and these two guitar virtuoses together gave us something that must be considered the absolute cream of Czech jazz guitar. The second set especially gave us in the audience a wow feeling when the harmony of two guitars almost reached perfection.
The Libor Šmoldas duo as an event deserves its place today on the Czech jazz map, it’s hard to find a high classed match somewhere else. So I suggest you keep your eyes open because this will have a follow up next month. A good place to start looking so you don’t get lost in the musical surplus that Prague has to offer is HERE.

Thank you Libor and Martin!
