Nigel Price & Libor Šmoldas @ Jazz Dock — 24.5.2026
I know the concept of a “Jazz Dialogue” became a worn-out phrase ages ago, but I honestly don’t know how else to describe what unfolded on the Jazz Dock stage yesterday. Because that is exactly what it was, straight from the textbook: a spontaneous, conversational exchange, trading improvised lines, responding to each other’s melodies, and listening closely to shift the song’s direction. They passed the spotlight back and forth, effortlessly answering each other’s musical phrases. That all sounds nice, right? And it is partly true—only it was so much better in reality.
Newborn Standards
Those nice words don’t fully capture the immense mutual respect Nigel and Libor have for one another. They don’t tell you about the pure joy they had playing together, or the love they shared for the music they performed. And how do I know all this? Easy—I was listening. ![]()
The setlist was made up of classic standards, starting with “How Deep Is the Vltava (Ocean)
” and finishing off with a blues. This might not sound very exciting on paper, but in the hands of these two guitar maestros, every tune felt newborn. As an example, I don’t recall ever hearing a better version of “One Note Samba”, delivered with the skill and intensity that defined the whole evening.
For me, it is a massive mystery why Jazz Dock wasn’t completely sold out last night. These are rare events, especially since there is quite a bit of water separating these two musical gentlemen. Yes, I know—this is the caveman speaking! But all is not lost. You still have a chance to catch up with these remarkable musicians:
- Tuesday 26.5 @ 18:00 — Zeurítia feat. Libor Šmoldas & Nigel Price at Bastion, Prague
- Wednesday 27.5 @ 20:00 — Nigel Price & Libor Šmoldas In Duo at U Staré paní
Thank you, Nigel & Libor!
