The New Generation

Young Artists Stage feat. Miloš Dvořáček @ Café Anežka, 14.04.2026

There is a new generation on its way in the Czech world of Jazz. This is, of course, no news—they have been coming for a long time—but we are certainly happy about it. Last night’s Young Artists Stage at Café Anežka was not only a confirmation of that talent but also a true “drummer’s night.”

This was the second event of the year arranged by Prague’s Impro Room, this time featuring Miloš Dvořáček as the guest of honor. Miloš has a reputation for knowing a thing or two about music and how to handle percussion, and watching him with his audience, it was clear that reputation is built on solid ground.

Even with my limited Czech skills, I enjoyed the workshop as much as anyone else. Miloš has a professional way of captivating his audience; he doesn’t just speak with words. Alongside bassist Taras Voloshchuk, he gave us a masterclass in how to truly use a drum set. If the workshop stole the heart of the audience, their final performance together was the seal of quality—an entertaining transition into the live music section.

The Rising Stars

The live music featured two upcoming groups from the rising generation. Both belong to the world of jazz, yet they could not be more different in their delivery.
First to the stage was the Ladislav Nič Group, a lineup put together specifically for this occasion. Built around the excellent young drummer Ladislav Nič, the group featured Kateřina Hošková (guitar), Taras Voloshchuk (bass), and Mikuláš Pokorný (piano). They are a perfect example of why the Czech music scene is in safe hands for the future. Even if a few members have already “graduated” past being called the new generation 😂, the sound was both impressive and joyful. Ladislav mentioned there’s a chance this group might continue in the future—if so, stay tuned to yhalinen.com, because they are well worth it!

The second group, PlutoŠimon Zitko (keys), Martin Lysoněk (guitar), Vojtěch Polej (sax), František Xaver Čepelák (bass), and Martin Kozák (drums)—have been together for about two years. Pluto is a fascinating study in modern fusion, bridging the gap between structured groove and psychedelic improvisation. While this experimental style is a departure from my usual tastes, I was struck by the synergy between the bass and drums; they provide a powerhouse rhythm section that keeps the complex sound grounded. It’s a bold, high-energy approach that highlights the technical caliber of the Prague scene.

The Future is Curated

The Young Artists Stage project is produced by CSound Production s.r.o. and led by musicians Kristina Barta and Marek Urbánek. It is an important educational platform and a must-visit if you are looking for something a little different in this musical mecca we call Prague. I can honestly recommend the workshops as a regular part of the experience.
The next Young Artists event is scheduled for June 9th. I’ll provide more details as we get closer to the date!
