The Old Hat on a new head

January’s music sessions had the perfect ending last night @ U Staré paní (@ The Old Lady) when Petra Vlková and Sonic Playground (Petra Vlková – voc; Libor Šmoldas – g; Mikuláš Pokorný – p;) took over the stage for a three set performance. A concert that held all the trade marks that we have been used to buy this fabulous trio, personality, joy and the outstanding skills of each individual. With a slightly renewed set list it still had the old standards with that extra twist as a basis, the one we all came to see and hear, and none of us got disappointed. All of the trios members also gave us a bit more excellent individual solos that we are used to, a sign of the harmony inside the group where you also give room for your teammates achievements, and we of course said thank you…  I also sensed a more tougher approach to some of the songs, a little maybe bluesier way to tackle the tunes, where the old Czech classic “Klobouk ve křoví” by Jiří Voskovec & Jan Werich was the best example, the song from 1934 had got the dress from 2025 and it sounded just superb!  Now the music experts are a different group, I as you all know, only like good music so I might be wrong,  but whatever it was I hope they keep it up. Something to develop for the future? An all together happy and successful night that will make us come back the next time. That will be the only problem with this band, they perform way to seldomly, this is a hint!  And just as a reminder, there’s a record coming soon, soon being an unspecified time frame but we are waiting…
