Jazz on the Roof for June;
You all know I am incredibly fond of this concept for so many reasons: classy music at a very affordable price, a perfect way to introduce jazz to first-timers, and the ultimate start to your weekend. Located right in the heart of Prague, it is just a short walk to anywhere you want to spend the rest of your evening.

Young Artists Stage – concerts and masterclass, feat. David Dorůžka;
This month’s absolute highlight takes us to the stunning St. Agnes Monastery complex. The press release says it best: “In cooperation with the VILEMÍNA & Café Anežka space, Prague Impro Room continues to develop an educational platform intended not only for music school students. Each term includes an open masterclass with a prominent personality of the Czech or foreign music scene and performances by student bands.”
Café Anežka, Prague 1, Tuesday 9.6 @18:00
Taras Voloshchuk Graduation Concert
Yes, it’s him! We only have one Taras in our local scene. As an established, deeply experienced, and highly appreciated double bass player who has been a staple around here for years, he is holding his graduation concert at Divadlo Inspirace. While I don’t know many more details yet, he will be performing in a trio format delivering his own original, contemporary music that is guaranteed to be exceptional! Admission is completely free, but the doors will close once the venue hits maximum capacity—so don’t be late!
Divadlo Inspirace Thursday 4.6 @ 19:00
Libor’s Jam Session;
Mirka Novak & Kristina Barta;
Two of our brilliant ladies of jazz who deserve all the attention they can get. Why? It is very simple: because they are good—actually, very good. While Kristina takes care of the piano, Mirka handles the vocals, and these ladies are absolutely fearless when it comes to improvisation. If you haven’t seen them in the past, it is about time. If you have seen them before, you most likely already have your seat saved at the Old Lady!
U Staré paní, Friday 12.6 @ 21:00
Vápenicefest @ Ateliér 57 ;
The best jazz club in Prague, the one in Beroun continues where it stopped last time, outdoor party! The summer doesn’t get much more real than here, and the setup is extraordinary, again:
- Olivia Trummer
- Milan Angelo Novák & Max Light Duo
- Janáček Jazz Quartet
This is an outdoor special, pay attention to the starting time!!!
Ateliér 57, Sunday 14.6 @18.00
Libor Šmoldas & Max Light In Duo;
Our own guitar guru teams up with one of the rising star guitarists from the New York jazz scene. This is a unique and bound-to-be interesting duo collaboration that possesses the skills to do… well, I guess we will just have to show up and find out!
U Staré paní, Wednesday 17.6 @20:00
Petra Vlkova & Sonic Playground;
My absolute favorite band when it comes to jazz standards, as you all are well aware of by now! 😊 You never quite know what to expect when they take the stage—every gig is a completely new experience. You will never hear the same gig, setlist, or solos twice. They are incredibly skillful both as a group and individually. Because they are all tied up in various other musical projects, you don’t get to see them together that often—so grab your chance while you can!
U Staré paní, Friday 19.6 @21.00
Luboš Soukup Quartet;
Luboš himself is always worth the ticket, but this time he has brought along some very prominent friends to create an absolute “can’t-miss” concert experience. This stellar lineup will take you on a journey through a world filled with exceptional original compositions, while still leaving plenty of room for classic jazz standards—all delivered in that unique, signature Luboš way!
Lineup:
Luboš Soukup (sax) • Jiří Levíček (p) • Petr Dvorský (b) • Jakub Švejnar (dr)
Jazz Dock, Friday 19.6 @19:00
Baroš/Kyncl Project ft Max Light & Jesse Simpson;
Like most of you, I know these individuals by their exceptional personal contributions to jazz. All four are absolute top-tier players in the Czech, European, and American jazz scenes—and now they are sharing the stage together. Anyone with even a slight interest in modern jazz simply cannot leave this gig unattended. This project is more than interesting; just look at the members of this incredible compound and you will understand why!
Lineup:
Jan Kyncl (sax) • Max Light (g) • Tomáš Baroš (b) • Jesse Simpson (dr)
Jazz Dock, Sunday 21.6 @20:00
Voice-Double Bass Octet;
They are back! Four voices and four double basses combine for an incredibly unique instrumental setup and an extraordinary sound. It catches your very soul, takes your breath away, and leaves you completely speechless. This is a true auditory spectacle that you simply have to experience live in a room. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by—they do not gig very often!
