When you don’t need to prove anything…

Libor Šmoldas and Adam Tvrdý in duo @ U Staré paní 17.11.2025

At some point I saw a comment in the social media referring to last night’s concert at U Staré paní, The Old Lady, with Libor Šmoldas and Adam Tvrdý that said “If you are a lover of guitar music this is almost mandatory” .The author of the expression couldn’t have been more right, even though I don’t understand why “almost”.
Most musicians (guitarists) I know spend their life striving for perfection, to get to the level where very few have access to. This has nothing to do with technical skills, how fast your finger works over the fretboard, it’s something totally different. Yes it requires talanant, very hard work, everything doesn’t come from birth, it comes with age and experience and yet so few reach the point where you don’t need to prove anything, To the point where you no longer have to protect your ego or constantly seek to be right, where you are free to be yourself and act according to your own internal values and motivations, rather than those of others, where you can concentrate on what you love to do most of all, making music. These persons are rare as you can understand and yet last night, on the same stage, there were two of them,

Seamless collaboration

Libor and Adam on the same stage is not an everyday occurrence, which is a shame, if you were at the same place as me last night you’ll know why. The seamless collaboration and respect for each other these two guitar virtuosos shared is something so special, so unique. The love and joy they have for the music they make gives an understanding to the expression, it’s not what you do, it’s how you do it.
With an evening of known and lesser known standards this was a more than a worthy ending to yesterday’s 17.11.
Thank you Libor and Adam and I really hope to see you two together again, and soon!  🙏🙏🙏
