Prague live music: The story goes on…

Performing under the temporary “pseudonym” of the Libor Šmoldas Trio ft. Sam Zerna & Jesse Simpson, Three of Seven continued their grand 2026 summer tour last night. No, I don’t know why the club used a pseudonym on the program, and to be completely honest, I don’t care—as long as the music remains at the absolute stratospheric quality these gentlemen consistently provide. Just four days have passed since I last saw this fabulous trio on the riverfront, and my only regret is that I haven’t had the time to attend every single stop on their tour. That is how addictive their sound is.

 

I won’t repeat everything I wrote last Monday, because the core elements remain unchanged—except for the fact that they are getting even more tightly welded together with every passing hour. Their performance is the ultimate definition of musical democracy. Watching them play, you can instantly see that this is a band of deep friends with no single leader steering the ship; instead, they share the reins completely. Their musical conversation is so telepathic that their solos perfectly finish each other’s sentences and answer each other’s melodic phrases. As expected, the gig at the Old Lady beautifully fulfilled the entire crowd’s expectations. Now, the transatlantic story moves across the border for a few days into Germany. If you have friends, readers in Berlin or Dresden, tell them not to let this opportunity pass them by! The trio returns to the Czech Republic on August 7th for the Písek Jazz Festival in a slightly different combination, and you can be absolutely certain it will be worth the trip. Even with the sweltering summer heat trying to melt the cellar, walking home past midnight with a massive grin on your face means you just experienced the magic of Three of Seven.
