Libor's Jam Session @ U Staré paní | 29.4.2026
When I stepped into the “Old Lady” last night, I’ll admit I was worried for a second—the place was already packed, and the first note hadn’t even been played. Luckily, my reservation held up and my table was waiting. There is a very good reason the house is full: the sheer quality of the music on offer. Of course, a lack of a cover charge might have something to do with the growing crowd, but that’s just a guess!
The night followed the best kind of tradition. Libor’s trio (Libor Šmoldas – g; Petr Hošek – dr; Ondřej Šrámek – b) warmed up the room before a wave of enthusiastic, skilled musicians staged a friendly takeover. Personally, I love this setup. It’s relaxed, unpredictable, and there is something uniquely honest about musicians giving their best on a voluntary basis. It feels less like a formal concert and more like a jazz family reunion—and honestly, the music is often better than at a paid gig.
A massive credit goes to the club owner for keeping this event free, even when those “dollar signs” must be dancing in the back of the mind while looking at such a huge audience.
Take a look at all the evening’s pictures to see exactly what I mean. If these shots don’t convince you, I hope to see you in person on Wednesday, May 20th for the next session!
