A small photographic pot-pourri of my music in the republic…
Lucky us…
I often feel blessed living in the Czech Republic—a country with an incredible amount of skilled musicians for its size. Many aren’t Czech by birth but are drawn here by the creative environment.
Just like everywhere else, these artists don’t always get the recognition they deserve. I’m trying to change that. Why? Why not!
Worth visiting
Prague and the surrounding area have an admirable number of clubs supporting domestic talent. Below are a few of my favorites.
(Click on a name to jump straight to that club’s photo gallery, or scroll down to explore.)
- Ateliér 57; (Beroun): : High-class concerts once a month in a unique environment you won’t find anywhere else. Their summer festivals are fantastic, and it’s a quick bus or train ride from Prague.
- Bastion; A special spot where music is served with an amazing view of Vyšehrad. The schedule is random, but always worth the visit.
- Jazz Dock; The most versatile music offering in the capital. Don’t miss Jazz on the Roof, on Saturday afternoons in the summer—it’s a wonderfully relaxed way to spend the day.
- U Malého Glena; A classic basement jazz club. Likely the smallest in town, but packed with high-class artists and a legendary atmosphere.
- U Staré paní; Another classic underground haunt with a “days gone by” interior and a great variety of talent.
- Bits and pieces; As the name suggests—snapshots from here, there, and everywhere in the world of Czech music. 🙂
These are places I personally favor, where the ticket prices are moderate and the repertoire is high-standard. They are loved by locals and musicians alike.
There are many more stages and outdoor festivals to discover, but this is your starting point.
