The Quartet becomes a Septet…

Jamie Marshall's Amplified Acoustic Band @ Jazz Dock 10.10.2025

With an intensive tempo and a dynamic sound Jamie brought his Amplified Acoustic Band, Svatka Štěpánková, voc.b; Jamie Marshall, voc.g; Radek Hlávka, g; Martin Petrásek, d, on stage last night to a sold out Jazz Dock. This time with a maybe slightly less talk more music show gave the audience exactly what it came for, get entertained and listen to some very good music. I don’t know if it was the, “long time no see” feeling, or what, but the band seemed just as pleased to be on the stage as we were in the audience to have them there. The reception the band received with the ovations showed that I wasn’t alone in my feelings, most of the songs were familiar with only a few newcomers, performed just so skillsfull as we know this band can do, an all perfect way to start the weekend, and yet Jamie had a surprise up his sleeve.

Breaking the successful formula

The Amplified Acoustic Band is at the peak of their powers, concerts are sold out earlier every time, the audience sings along with the songs, and the feedback is overwhelmingly positive, and for a good reason! 😀 So to everybody’s astonishment Jamie has changed the successful formula by adding three! new members to the band, Suzanne Higgins – sax; Amy Sauve – key; Andy Schofield – sax, I say Jamie but without knowledge I’m pretty sure that this is a collective decision. A brave and interesting move, interesting because the new members are all connected to the music genre called jazz, and with the very strong blues/rock roots that AAB possesses I’m more than curious on what the future will bring. 😀 Last night the new trio was clearly still trying to find its place, naturally this being the first gig together, but there were some indications of what is to come when for example Radek and Andy had a short and brilliant duel with their instruments. This is also a brave move since the greatest human resistance is resistance against change, and doing this when you’re on the top… But with a big interest at least I’m waiting what the future will bring.

Once again, a perfect evening, I said it before so I’ll repeat myself, I wish this band could do some more concerts, yesterday showed clearly that there’s a place AND need for it!
I only felt a little sad for the group coming up after Jamie and AAB, clearly not the best starting position going on stage after what ABB pulled off, but then again, c’est la vie 😀 🙏
