Tomáš Zelený Trio @ U Staré Paní 2.1.2026
As many of you already know I personally think Prague is Europe’s Jazz Capital and has been so for quite a while, with its long music tradition, the skill of the performing artists just to mention a couple of things. After last night’s concert at The Old Lady with the multi international
Tomáš Zelený Trio, Tomas Zeleny – dr; Mikuláš Pokorný – p; Pavol Mojto – b, I’m convinced that this will not change for some time. Yesterday’s trio represented the new, upcoming generation in the Czech jazz world. They are technically very skillefulled, like most of the professional musicians in this country, something we all seem to forget every now and then, since to us this is so self-evident. They often have a little different approach to their music and performance. Last night took us to a journey with a successful combination of standards and Tomas originals, which I hope we will hear more of in a near future, all presented in a laid back, melodic and stylish way, and of course all done very skilfully as I already mentioned. And most important, there was that little touch to their musical approach, the one you can’t explain or learn in school!
This trio is a fairly new set-up, they have, before last night, only performed in private events, yesterday was their first public event. Let’s hope for their and our sake that there will be more, because they deserve it, and so do we, the listeners. This was more or less the perfect way to start 2026!
Thank you Tomáš Zelený Trio 🙏🙏
