She heated the afternoon

Petra Vlková Trio @ Jazz Under The Roof 17.5.2025

The weather god’s put us lovers of the jazz afternoon sessions once again under the roof. They had no understanding whatsoever of the fact that we are in the middle of May and we should be sweltering in the sun. Fortunately Petra Vlková Trio, Adam Doucha – g; Ondřej Štajnochr – b; Petra Vlková – voc; didn’t care a bit about the rulers of weather and heated up the Jazz Dock with a warm, personal and enjoyable set of jazz standards. This trio that saw its daylight for the first time yesterday was a truly interesting combination of young and old, of experienced and not so experienced musicians.
Ondřej with his bass will of course be the elderly of the group in many ways, but most of all in the way he handled his stringed instrument. It takes tallent, time and hard work to achieve the skill he has, and to be honest, most of those who try will never get even close to his level. And with his mastery of the bass he still keeps a modest stage performance, or maybe just because of that? Petra being the bandleader yesterday probably expressed it best when saying “A rock you can always rely on”.

Future star

Adam and his guitar represent the other end of the trio, the not so experienced part. But in spite of that one has to wonder where he picked up his skills. An absolutely brilliant and personal way to approach the old classics served yesterday. A proof of that music is far more than just technical skills, even if he possesses them also, but… The emotions, feelings he puts into his playing is something that you can not learn anywhere, it comes from the unknown place somewhere deep inside you, if one can find them you’re lucky, most of us never do, Adam has found his. The audience was so impressed by his takeaways that he had to answer the question why a young man with his talent got into jazz music! 😀 Put his name in your memory box because Adam is just starting something that we will hear about very much at some point! 😀

Petra shining...

Petra loves singing, she loves performing for us, and we love her when she does. With her warm, authentic style she always brings a smile to your face, just like yesterday. And when we showed her with the ovations how much we liked her, she got even more excited and we had even more fun. A true win-win situation 😀. Petra is good, have no doubt about that and yet I have all the time had the feeling that the best is still to come, I still do, and after that, only the sky’s the limit, time will tell! I also want to give her credit for letting Adam take the spotlight and share his history about how he got involved in what is called jazz music, and in general for the time she gave her fellow musicians on stage, because she had the opportunity to do it the other way, nice going!  🙏
