No, it’s simply not true—there is absolutely still some summer left! Imagine a perfect Saturday afternoon: the sun is shining, and you are feeling totally relaxed sitting on the roof at Jazz Dock without a single worry in your mind. Autumn? What autumn?
All of that was beautifully taken care of by the afternoon’s band, Ondřej Kabrna & Flying Accordion, who brought an almost legendary lineup to the stage: Ondřej Kabrna (accordion), Jaroslav Šindler (guitar), and Vít Fiala (bass). With Ondřej—currently one of the most sought-after and valued multi-instrumentalists you can find—leading the way up front, backed by two absolute virtuosos, the stage was set for pure magic.
I’m slightly ashamed to admit that Vít on the bass was a brand-new acquaintance for me. I must be one of the very few music lovers around who hadn’t heard him play live before—let’s just blame that on my background! Now that oversight has been thoroughly corrected, and let me assure you: the man knows exactly what he’s doing. But of course, you don’t need me to tell you that! Meanwhile, maestro Šindler, the ultimate mentor to today’s generation of guitarists, was making pure magic on his strings. This is a trio if there ever was one.
Were they any good, you ask? Why else do you think I left feeling like a million dollars? 😀 But you don’t just have to take my word for it. When these masters of music first started to play, the roof was not even half full. By the time the second set was about to begin, Jazz Dock was so packed they only had deckchairs or standing room left to offer. The people who were passing by down on the riverbank simply couldn’t just pass by.
With a setlist packed with pure, timeless jazz standards, the music acted like a powerful magnet. And it wasn’t just their immense skill or fame that drew the crowd. This performance showcased something you can never learn in a classroom. It’s a question of genuinely loving what you do, letting that joy ring out in every single note that hits the atmosphere, and then, of course, tapping into that mysterious musical chemistry you can never quite put your finger on… 🎶✨
Every music teacher out there should take their students to a session exactly like this and ask them just one thing: “If you can feel and understand what is happening here, you have everything it takes to make it. The rest is just practice.”
