Roman Pokorný Trio @ Jazz Dock 2.8.2025
The absolutely brilliant Saturday afternoon summer series held by Jazz Dock that goes under the name; Jazz on The Roof, continued yesterday. No I’m not getting paid to write this, this is my blog
, I just love the whole concept of bringing high quality live music to us, outside the normal late night jazz club hours, These are really artist and performances that you normally hear around the midnight hour, and that is what makes this so special, yesterday was once again proof of that.

As expected, fortunately, Roman Pokorný Trio, Emil Novotny – b; Martin Šulc – dr; Roman Pokorný – g. was just as relaxing and enjoyable as one had hoped for. The perfect break for a Saturday afternoon and a very good way to start the actual weekend. This in spite of the fact that our weather gods had turned the event On The Roof to Under The Roof. A little sad because without a doubt it decreased the amount of the spectators a little, but musically it was still top class. Of course with a line up like yesterdays you can’t go wrong. Roman and Martin, both the elite of the Czech/European music world, two established musicians that have been around the block a few times, minimum
, skilled, confident and aware of their competence, as they should be, nothing wrong with that! They know they are good, they don’t need to prove anything anymore so they focus totally on the music, or I should say the joy of making the music, bringing the jazz standards back to life and sharing it all to us, accompanied with some brilliant solos every once and awhile. And the “youngster” of the trio, even if he not yet still known to the larger audience due to his fairly young age was not in anyway in the shadow of his more experienced colleagues, Emil has a fearless approach to his playing and is not afraid of taking the responsibility when so required, which we experienced yesterday. An all together very nice afternoon to start the weekend, thank you Roman Pokorný Trio.
