Jazz at the Vineyard…

Petra Vlková & Sonic Playground @ Viniční podvečery 27.8.2025

New place, new band, almost. The place was a new and welcomed finding, more about this further down. The band was the same as before, they only sounded new, as usual! 😀 I’m of course referring to Petra Vlková & Sonic Playground, Petra Vlková – voc; Libor Šmoldas – g; Mikuláš Pokorný – p. Last night also with the help of sound engineer Josef Krůšek who did an excellent job, also recognised by the band when Petra gave him the credit that he deserved!
It’s only been five days since I saw this fabulous musical compound the last time and yet it was like looking at a totally new group. As I’ve mentioned before, the way they renew themself for every concert is something outstanding, you never know what to expect audio wise, everything is always a surprise. The only thing one can be sure of is that it’s more than good and yesterday made no exceptions. This time they were maybe more focused on the individual performances with some great arrangements and solos that took your breath away. I’ll not make a resume of the whole setlist because then this blog will turn into a book that no one wants to read but I must mention the old tune  “At last”, writen by the gentlemen Mark Gordon and Harry Warren 1941 and recorded by everybody. The Playgrounds version was something so special and great that I had to go and ask “What was this?” because I didn’t even recognise the tune. Turns out that Mikuláš is to be blamed for the arrangements, and if that is the case, more of this Mikuláš, please! If you want to know more of how good the Playground really was, go to my blog from the last time, saving me time to repeat myself. 😀 You’ll find the blog HERE!

Viniční domek

Yesterday’s concert was in a place that goes under the name Viniční domek, at Chuchelská 6/1, a small and little unknown establishment just outside the center of Prague, only 9,1 km from Wenceslas Square, tramstop more or less just outside the premises. This restaurant /vineyard has organised something they call Vineyard Evenings Festival for six years already, and with a music menu that will satisfy almost every taste. This is a warm, charming and pleasant spot that’s worth a visit with or without the music. I suggest you’ll give it a try. The only thing that’s a little negative about it is the main road leading to Modrany, it can be very loud occasionally, a little disturbing maybe if one wants to concentrate on the music offered. Mind you, it didn’t affect the Playground last night, even though the fire trucks sirens were totally out of tune! 😉 The festival takes place under the period 27.8 – 10.9.2025, look it up online..

Don’t forget, the official release date for the Playgrounds debut album at Jazzclub U Staré Paní, 10.9.2025 @ 20.00, be there, I know I will! 😀
