It’s here again—and it’s still brilliant!

Petra Vlková & Sonic Playground: The Album (The Physical Edition)

About a year ago, Petra Vlková & Sonic Playground (Petra Vlková – voc; Libor Šmoldas – g; Mikuláš Pokorný – p) released their first full-length album. At the time, it was a “streaming only” affair, but the wait for a tangible version is finally over.

For those of us who still crave the ritual of a real record—something physical to slide into the player—this is a gift. Even after a year of heavy rotation, this record stands out. It is just as brilliant today as it was on release day (you can revisit my original review HERE. We are talking about timeless jazz standards that simply don’t age.

One catch: This is a strictly limited edition. I have no idea if there will be a second pressing, so I suggest you move fast. Contact Petra directly at vlkovajazz.com/kontakt/ , email: vlkovajazz@gmail.com or find her on Facebook for an update. Why am I telling you this now? Because my own order is finally confirmed. Buy the rest, I don’t care—I got mine!

Part 1: Why This Matters (The "Math" of Independent Music)

Note: Neither Petra nor anyone else influenced this text. This is something I’ll be coming back to often, so consider this “Part 1” of a recurring theme.
I care about where your money goes. When you choose physical over digital, the impact on a musician’s life is massive:

  • Streaming vs. Physical: An artist can earn 40 to 80 times more from a single CD sale than from the thousands of streams needed to match that income.
  • Cutting out the Middleman: While platforms like Bandcamp are fair, major digital stores take a huge cut. Buying a CD directly from the artist ensures the highest percentage of your money stays in their pocket.
In short, buying the physical record is the most direct way to say “thank you” to the artist. Maybe some people don’t care about the economics of art, but I do.
