OJ Žlábek Blues Band - @ Jazz Dock 4.4.2025
If you have interest in how this band normally sounds, go to my previous blog (HERE) which is only a month old because last night was everything but normal, and this said in a positive way, very positive! 
OJ Žlábek Blues Band, Ondřej Žlábek – harp, voc; Jiří Maršíček – g, voc; Jan Svorník – b; Marcus Jurkovič – dr. literally conquered a sold out Jazz Dock last night with their album release gig “Give someone a little hug”. A record which is an honest, true Czech blues cut, not any old covers made to fit the year 2025, which would have been an easy solution since the band holds the skill to do this. No, this is a release of the band’s own song with all the lyrics made by OJ himself, and from what I heard last night, it sounded good and promising, but more about that some other time.

Last night was a concert full of emotions, joy of playing, friends, friendship, and of course excellent blues, a gig that didn’t leave anybody cold, yes I know, a cliche again, but so true! The release of the record was clearly hard work that erupted as much in the performance as in a party, and we in the audience were all invited, and what a party it was! And before you try to twist my words, we were offered some absolutely great blues, great work of togetherness, brilliant solos, you name it. The band itself took of course care of the main musical offering, but they were not alone, last night they had brought some very prominent friends to their party, people close to the band and many of them involved in the making of the record in one way or the other. With them in this musical party was also, Lenka Novotná – voc; Osian Roberts – sax; Marcel Flemr – g; Jan Kořínek – p; Taras Voloshchuk – b; Tomáš Vokurka dr. They all separate and together made this an evening to remember, I will not even try to bring up anybody special or any special performance, for me, last night was not about your personal skill or talent, last night was about something else, and we all had FUN!
