All the Things You Are

The opening number at The Old Lady last night, “All the Things You Are”, couldn’t have been more apt. The jazz standard ano 1939 got dressed up in today’s colors with a beautiful arrangement and performance made by Kristina Bartas Trio, Kristina Barta – p; Taras Voloshchuk – b; Frantisek Kukula – dr; and that song set the tone for the whole evening. Because that was something one could ask yourself after last night’s concert, what are you Kristina Barta Trio? More than inspiring, sensitive, skilled, original and absolutely brilliant. Kristina took us to a journey that included her own songs and some arrangements of the old standards that were really, something! Although the attention is understandably focused on Kristina, and for reason of course, make no mistake, yesterday was a trio performing. Where both Taras and Frantisek were given the space and time to show why they were part of this excellent musical combination, and they showed us. All in all, a great musical experience, I really hope this trio will continue their journey.
