Every now and then art schools Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory arranges small concerts for its students at U Staré paní (The Old Lady), yesterday in turn was talented Daniel Žižka & Band, Daniel Žižka – voc; Michaela Černá – p; Daniela Humlová – b. Yesterday’s performance was clearly built around Daniel and his musical vocabulary, and no wonder. It’s hard to believe that this young man is only in the beginning of his career with the power and vocal technique he possesses. A clear, high-pitched emotional voice that will take your breath away

Daniel who should more correctly be described as a multi artist showed yesterday that not only is he a great singer but also handles his stage performance in a relaxed and pleasant way, something that was to be seen on the reaction of the audience, in spite of the fact that most of them were obviously friends and relatives. Even though last night was Daniel’s night I want to give credit to the background forces where both Michaela and Daniela did their parts flawlessly and with style, giving space to the main attraction of the night. To be using an old cliché again, remember this name because he has a voice for the future.

I don’t know what the story is behind the conservatory’s performances at the Old Lady, more that here is a chance to hear something of the future, like yesterday, and for free, there’s no admission, no cover charge. One thing to keep in mind though, this isn’t my place to point out, but I’ll do it anyway. These are not children performing but highly educated, talented young artists, some of them have already started their career so if and when you go here, remember the attitude.
The whole setup is great, giving the future of Czech music a chance to perform in a real jazz club and everything that goes with it, a touch of reality, and giving us, the audience, a chance to hear some very qualified music for free and at a reasonable time of the day, yesterday’s concert started 18.00, a perfect break before the evening, and great for those of us who are a little older and don’t necessarily have the energy to party in nightclubs until the wee hours of the morning. 😀😂
