Adam Tvrdy Brian Charette Project @ AghaRTA jazz club 24.11.2025
My admission ticket to AghaRTA jazz club last night said, Adan Tvrdy Brian Charette Project, which meant Adam Tvrdy – g; Brian Charette – org; Jiří Stivín Jr. – dr, It also said modern jazz, this of course a truth with some modification, since we were served a menu of jazz, blues, funk….. if there. for some reason is a desire to categorize last night’s show. It would have been much easier to just put down good music, or to be even more precise, very, very good music, because that is what it was, A 2 1/2 person Czech multifunction group that really lightened up the grey and wet November Monday.
Adam with his guitar held the lead and showed us why he is considered to be one of the top guitarists in the republic, which today equals with being a top guitarist in Europe, that’s how high the standard of Czech musicians is today. We also got to hear some of Adams own originals, which we could have listened to much more. Yes, Adam is a good composer to consider; he has a straightforward style that is evident both in his compositions and his performances, and he also makes some fabulous arrangements of known and lesser known songs.
The other half of the project, Brian Charette, is already almost a legend in the hammond world of music, and with a reason of course, last night we got to know why! This New York based hammond virtuosi who among other features is known for his totally non-gestural style is also to be counted for as the 1/2 Czech person. That’s how frequently he honors us with his visits and concerts in our country, and one has to remember, Brian has performed for two of the republic’s presidents, how many Czech musicians can put that on their CV? 
And where one of Brian’s trademarks is his non-gestural style, Jiří Stivín Jr. is to be held the absolute opposite, Jiří, who uses his whole body, not only the drumsticks, to make the magic from his percussion instrument was yesterday again the perfect companjoin to Adams and Brian’s project. Of course the collaboration between Adam and Jiří was clearly to be heard also, these two masters having several projects together, both in the past and ongoing.
Old acquaintances
Adam and Brian are no strangers to each other. They have a strong musical history and as a result already 2014 Adam Tvrdy Brian Charette Project released an album named “Suspicious Activities”. Even though the album physically is no longer sold it can be found on different streaming platforms, a perfect gift for yourself or a friend because the album is good, even after 11 years it still holds up today. I’ll come back later with some more hints for you to put in Santa’s sack.
As for now I’m just digesting yesterday’s memories, thank you Adam Tvrdy Brian Charette Project
