Libor's Jam Session @ U Staré paní 6.1.12026
We’re lucky to be in the quiet month of January, and considering that yesterday was the first “normal” Monday after the holidays, not much happening in our beautiful capital
. Of course not, because they were all in The Old Lady’s for Libor first jam session of the year. The club was packed last night, I’m not sure, but I think nobody was left outside in the cold, but seating places for everybody?, forget it. And there were not only spectators, a decent amount of musicians showed up also to entertain us and themself. The whole session, which included only one set, like Libor himself promised, okay it lasted over three hours
and for sure gave something to everybody, no matter if you were playing or listening! And as normal with a jam session I will not pick out individual performances, or tell you who was playing since I don’t even know everybody’s identity!
But…
I will stick out my neck a little for the band that made the frame for the music last night. Libor Šmoldas, one of the best guitarists at least in Europe was at his peak last night, maybe something to do with his soon upcoming Australian tour 2026? Although, there wasn’t much time left for his stage performance due to the amount of musicians who wanted to take over the stage.
Libor’s rhythm section for last night was in spite of their young age almost mind blowing, Matej Štubniak – b; Tomáš Zelený – dr, thats names you should put in your memory box. Tomas with his modest style might fool you for a while, that is, until he starts playing. His skill and touch for the music he makes would make much more experienced drummers just go quiet. Matej on the bass, in style totally opposite with a way to immerse himself into his playing and with a brilliant technique, he was also more than great. Tomas and Matej formed a team that one should have believed had been playing together for years.
Looking at the pictures, I hope I got at least something of the feeling from last night. The next jam session is due to 5th of February, also a dead quiet month!

P.S. The boss for the establishment, Malvina, had a small anniversary yesterday, 25 or something… So Happy Birthday Malvina!
