A Christmas break…

Is the Christmas stress taking a toll on you? No wonder when you look around. Last night at the Old Lady (U Staré Paní) I found the perfect medecin for it. Kristina Barta Quartet, this time with the little original set up, Kristina Barta – p; Jaromír Honzák – b; Jesse Simpson – dr; Luboš Soukup – sax, a cure that I can recommend for all sorts of diseases, Those of you who are familiar with the music scenery in the republic all four names are known of course. They are no more talented musicians but skillful established professionals that will ease your mind for two sets and make you walk home with a smile on your face, asking yourself why all the people around you seem so tense, if you have no idea what I’m talking about , now is a good time to start learning. Just so perfect was Kristina and her colleagues last night. With almost all songs performed being originals, modern melodic tunes with an amount of classic added to it, all composed by Kristina and carried out by all four musicians since Kristina as a brilliant bandleader also gives room to her companions, this was just so perfect that one could hope for. Especially Luboš and his woodwind instrument got much space to show us why he is considered to be the top of European sax players when creating his almost magical sound waves. Don’t get me wrong, this was an example of what we experienced last night, remember there were four magicians on stage. Kristina lets do this again, and why not with the same set up, please! But most of all, thank you   and Merry Christmas.
