Summer arrived also here this weekend, and it was brought to us by the best Jazz Club in Prague—the one in Beroun, Ateliér 57! To be fair, the venue had a “little” help from the Originální Pražský Synkopický Orchestr, a group that feels completely at home at this kind of outdoor event. Their stylish, period-accurate costumes instantly set the stage for success, but above all, they shone because of their incredible musical skill and the pure joy they bring to the stage. Yesterday was no exception, as proven by the roaring ovations the band received.
They made absolutely sure that not a single grumpy face could be found at A57 or the surrounding neighborhood. Then again, grumpy faces don’t really exist at A57 anyway, do they? The music and its magic, when served just right, simply makes everyone a little happier. And I must mention the weather. The spring has been incredibly cold across the whole Czech Republic, yet the moment A57 hosts a Garden Party, it is suddenly T-shirt weather. It was the only warm day of the entire week—and this isn’t the first time it has happened. Somebody please tell me how they control the weather?!
A Vintage Family Picnic
The members of the orchestra weren’t the only ones dressed in dapper 1920s style. Several audience members took up our host’s challenge to attend the party in vintage attire. A few guests put so much effort into their outfits that they even earned admiring looks from the band members themselves. Beautifully done!
This was a truly worthy opening for the summer season, which was reflected in the massive turnout. The days when you could arrive at A57 and casually pick your favorite seat are officially gone; nowadays, you are lucky just to find one! Yesterday was a beautiful exception where many spectators preferred to lounge on the grass outside, enjoying a model family picnic while keeping an eye on the younger generation. Meanwhile, those who came strictly for the music packed the inside area, enjoying an intimate, immediate connection with the band.
A perfect band, perfect arrangements, a flawless day at A57, and endless happy faces. What more is there to say? The next concert at Ateliér 57 will be on June 14th for Vápenicefest, featuring Olivia Trummer, the Milan Angelo Novák & Max Light Duo, and the Janáček Jazz Quartet. Please pay close attention to the starting time of 18:00.
