Jazz Special @ Jazz Dock 14.2.2026
Last night, a capacity crowd at Jazz Dock witnessed the birth—and potentially the only performance—of a remarkable Czech jazz “supergroup.” Featuring Luboš Soukup (sax), David Dorůžka (g), Jaromír Honzák (b), Marek Urbánek (dr), and Petr Zelenka (g), this ensemble of old friends came together for what founder Luboš Soukup suggests is a one-time-only event.
For jazz aficionados, these names are already legendary. For the uninitiated lucky enough to be in attendance, their individual skills were on full display. Each musician delivered the kind of high-caliber, virtuosic solos one would expect, finding their way straight to the hearts of the audience.
However, what made the deepest impression on me was their collective harmony. Despite this being their first time sharing a stage as a quintet, the synergy was seamless. The music was simultaneously melodic and gentle, yet so energetic and intense that it held the room’s absolute attention for the entire two-hour set.
If there was any “negative” to be found, it is only the hope that Luboš is wrong about this being their final show. I can easily see a bright future for Jazz Special, both in the recording studio and on the international stage. Time will tell!
Thank you, Jazz Special! 😀

Prague: The European Capital of Jazz
After last night’s performance by Jazz Special, I’m sticking my neck out again to defend a statement that often earns me a bit of pushback: Prague truly is the European capital of jazz.
To me, last night was more than just a brilliant concert; it was proof. We saw local stars—not world-famous “headline breakers,” but deeply skillful musicians—playing original compositions and fresh arrangements with a level of talent that can stand up to anyone, anywhere.
The room was packed, mostly with locals who knew exactly what to expect—a knowledgeable and demanding audience. Furthermore, Jazz Dock deserves immense credit. On a prime Saturday night, they chose to trust in local excellence rather than booking a foreign “big name” just for the sake of it. They were rewarded with a full house and a brilliant, soulful evening.

Thank you, Prague. You really are the European capital of jazz.
