The Old Lady goes world class, 3.1.2025!
Yes, they kept all the expectations that were laid on them, and with a little plus. With a three set evening, continuing mostly tunes from the Great American Songbook, this absolutely fabulous duo made the old jazz standards sound like something really new and fresh on the music front, even though you likely have heard most of the songs hundreds of times before, but not performed in this way. Libor is, of course, already an established world class guitarist whose skills nobody has any doubt about, a veteran in the jazzworld and also a leader on the stage. As he himself pointed out he could be the father of Milan. Libor showed much of his greatness giving very much space to Milan, there was no bullying of old vs young, on the contrary. There was only this excellent guitar duo performing, nothing more. Milan said thank you for the space he showed us why he is one of the futures in Czech jazz guitar, if not the future. This young man holds among many things, a technique that’s exceptional for his age and some very fast fingers, and he is overall very, very good!
They all stayed and very quiet
I will not even try with musical terms to tell you how good these two virtuosos were last night, after all, what do I know, I only like good and very good music. But I will tell you something from yesterday so you hopefully get an idea of what we experienced yesterevening, and why you should show up in person the next time.
When the first set started Old Lady was more or less empty. During the first set and especially during the second set, more and more people were coming, clearly random guests, out for a Friday drinking session in the town. They paid their cover charge, sat down, ordered their pint and… Instead of this load shouting hullabaloo you get from intoxicated persons, in a positive way, nothing wrong with having fun, these people went quiet and they started to follow the happenings on stage and nobody left. They all stayed and watched the show until the end, so by the beging of the third set Old Lady only had standing places to offer.
And no, Libor and Milan have no more concerts planned together, I asked. But when they do, you will find the information on this website or/and our FB page yhalinen.com, so stay tuned. If you’re curious about the previous concert, their first one ever, you’ll find it HERE!
P.s. Libor is performing also today at the Old Lady at the same hour 20.00, this time with jazz singer Petra Vlková, who should actually be named soloist, that’s how good she is and this is also something you do want to listen to, see you tonight… 😉
