Baroš/Kyncl Project ft. Max Light & Jesse Simpson @ Jazz Dock | 21.6.2026
The Baroš/Kyncl Project wrapped up their tour last night at Jazz Dock. When you combine a Czech jazz heavyweight pair with their top-tier American equivalents—though honestly, both are practically locals by now, especially Jesse—you expect fireworks. We got exactly that. This world-class international modern jazz collaboration finished its mini-tour yesterday, having received high praise everywhere they performed. Those of us who attended the concert last night fully understood the compliments showered upon this quartet throughout their tour; their performance was simply magnificent.
The birth of this project came from bassist Tomáš Baroš and saxophonist Jan Kyncl, both of whom contributed most of the songs we heard last night. Tomáš was truly in his element; he got the bass singing in a way that makes it easy to understand why he is considered one of the top players in Europe, at the very least. And Jan and his sax were not far behind. He is still young, but you can be absolutely sure he knows exactly what he is doing. Together, he and Tomáš share a true masterclass in mutual understanding, playing with absolute technical precision and emotional warmth.
Add to the mix the “American” contribution with New York guitarist Max Light and Californian/Beroun drummer Jesse Simpson, and you get modern jazz at its finest. It is deeply rooted in tradition—as aren’t they all?—yet constantly pushing boundaries, bringing a brilliant, unpredictable energy into the club.
As the final notes rang out over the Vltava, it was clear that this transatlantic experiment was a resounding triumph. I have quoted Hans Christian Andersen in my galleries before, and it fits perfectly here tonight: “Where words fail, music speaks.” Last night, the music spoke volumes. Thank you, Baroš/Kyncl Project!

P.S. Some inside information, this guys goes studio today, so now we have more to wait for in a near future, stay tuned and I’ll info you more when I have something…
