JUST IN: Libor Šmoldas Quartet Christens “Sorry, Miles!” with Jazz Royalty Peter Bernstein

This is fresh news

The trio of Larry Goldings, Peter Bernstein, and Bill Stewart is one of the most enduring forces in modern jazz. With over thirty years of “telepathic” chemistry, anyone with even a passing interest in the genre knows these icons well.

Sharing a stage with these legends is more than an honor; for many, it’s a dream. Tonight at JazzFestBrno, that dream became a reality at Cabaret des Péchés. Our own Libor Šmoldas Quartet—featuring Mikuláš Pokorný (piano), Jesse Simpson (drums), and Tomáš Baroš (double bass)—served as the incredible opening act for this world-class trio.

But this was much more than a warm-up. Tonight marked the official baptism of the quartet’s brand-new record, “Sorry, Miles!” The distinguished duty of Godfather was performed by none other than Peter Bernstein himself!

It has been a night of happy faces, world-class music, and a celebration for a record that stands out for both its individual performances and its overall brilliance. The atmosphere here at the Cabaret is electric, and the quartet just finished their set to a warm and deserved reception from the audience. Libor Šmoldas Quartet proved exactly where they belong: on the same stage with the other stars.

Take a look at these photos to get a taste of the feeling here tonight. And if anyone tries to tell you about this tomorrow, just say: “Old news—I already read it at yhalinen.com!”

I’ll have a more detailed report for you tomorrow, along with some thoughts on the Goldings/Bernstein/Stewart trio who are about to take the stage. To be honest, even for a legendary trio, a less experienced group might feel a little uncomfortable having to come on after the Libor Šmoldas Quartet! 😉
