Your Hotspots for April

Where to go and who to listen to...

There’s no end to the Jazz Spring 2026!
We are being spoiled with so much high-quality music right now—the only “bad” thing is the overlapping schedules. How do you choose when everything is top-tier?

Here are my hints for April. This list is entirely subjective; I only bother with “good” or “very good” music, so you know these are worth your time. My focus is on local artists—they aren’t always Czech, but they are local and they are excellent.

At the time of writing, tickets were available for every gig listed. Bookmark this page for fresh HotSpots every month, or check my Club Guide for venue details
HERE…

Libor Šmoldas & Adam Doucha;
Our own guitar virtuoso joins forces with one of the most promising young guitarists in the country. A duo like this can never go wrong!
These sessions are among my personal favorites and an absolute must-see. They are relaxing, entertaining, and incredibly high-class. We’ll see each other at the “Old Lady”—and that’s a true story! 😉

U Staré paníWednesday 1.4 @ 20:00

Petra Vlkova & Sonic Playground;
You will not find a better compound in the whole of Czechia when referring to jazz standards. Personal and original performances, great arrangements, a togetherness that many envy, a love for each other and to the music the play.
There’s never two concerts alike. Your own mistake if you let this pass, you don’t see them on stage that often, unfortunately.
U Staré paní, Thursday 2.4 @ 20:00

Libor Šmoldas Quartet: Sorry, Miles!
!!! DON’T MISS OUT !!!
If you missed the album christening at the “Old Lady” on March 11th, you can find our full blog and photos from that night HERE.
The Libor Šmoldas Quartet will perform a special set from Sorry, Miles! for a second christening at JazzFestBrno on April 7th. They are opening for the legendary trio of Goldings, Bernstein, and Stewart—and since Peter Bernstein himself is the album’s “godfather,” expect something truly special at Cabaret des Péchés!
JAZZFESTBRNO, Cabaret des Péchés, Tuesday 7.4 @ 19.30

Brian Charette Trio feat. Šoltis / Štveráček;
Organ master Brian Charette clearly loves playing in Prague, and we couldn’t be happier about it! This time, he returns with what can only be described as a “super trio,” joined by Ondřej Štveráček on sax and Daniel Šoltis on drums.
It’s an incredibly tight and interesting setup that you definitely shouldn’t let pass.
Jazz Dock, Thursday 9.4 @21:00

Ondřej Pivec Organic Quartet x2!
Ondřej Pivec
, Libor Šmoldas, Jakub Doležal, and Tomáš Hobzek—the legendary musical brothers from the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory—return to the “scene of the crime” for a unique double concert at Jazz Dock.
As of this writing, standing tickets are still available for both sets, but seating remains only for the later show. Hurry up if you want to catch these living Czech legends in action!
Jazz Dock, Saturday 11.4 @19:00 and 22.00

(more pictures after the concert, I hope 😀).

Young Artists Stage feat. Miloš Dvořáček;
Here is your chance to discover something fresh. The Prague Impro Room, in cooperation with the VILEMÍNA space, presents an educational platform for young musicians at the beautiful Café Anežka, right next to St. Agnes Monastery.
This “Masterclass, Concert & Jam” features the Ladislav Nič Group and the band Pluto. Don’t let the “student” label fool you—these artists already possess skills most can only dream of. Give them a listen, stay for the whole night, and support the future of the Czech jazz scene!
The Schedule:
18:30 – Masterclass
19:30 – Ladislav Nič Group
20:30 – Pluto
21:00 – Jam Session
Café Anežka (Praha 1), Tuesday 14.4 @ 18:30

Night of Female Singers 2026;
I’m not even going to try and describe the full program—it’s massive, high-quality, and everything a jazz festival should be. From the workshops to the main stage, the energy is unmatched.
Even the house band alone is worth the trip: Ondřej Kabrna (p), Adam Tvrdý (g), Petr Dvorský (b), and Daniel Šoltis (dr). Ironically, they are all men 😉, but they provide the perfect backbone for this incredible lineup of voices.
Cancel your plans for the weekend and just go.

Libor Šmoldas Organ Trio;
The Czech Republic’s multi-talented guitar virtuoso and his organ trio simply cannot go wrong. Between the original sound, the infectious rhythm, and—of course—the soul of the Hammond B3, this lineup never fails to deliver!
U Staré paní, Saturday 25.4 @ 20:00

Ion Virlan Quintet;
Once again, A57 presents a new group making their debut at Prague’s best jazz club—the one in Beroun!
Performing under the name Ion Virlan Quintet, this group is synonymous with high-energy, authentic jazz. When you combine that talent with the unique, intimate atmosphere you just won’t find in any other venue, you’ll see why this is exactly where I spend one Sunday every month!
Ateliér 57, Sunday 26.4 @19.00

Kateřina Hošková & Filip Baader Graduation Concert;
This is the future of Czech jazz! I’ve had the pleasure of hearing Kateřina Hošková play before, and she is absolutely worth it; I have no doubt that Filip Baader is on the same level.
Expect an evening of high-caliber music from a stellar lineup: Kateřina Hošková (g), Filip Baader (p), Luboš Soukup (sax), František Vaníček (trp), Martin Gerla and Emil Novotný (b), and Ladislav Nič (dr).
Jazz Dock, Monday 27.4 @20:00

Mladí ladí jazz Open Air 2026;
The tradition continues! To celebrate International Jazz Day, the festival has moved from Karlovo náměstí to the Holešovice Exhibition Grounds (Výstaviště). This is the first major open-air music event of the season—the perfect way to kick off the spring.
For the full lineup and festival details, check their website. In the meantime, here are a few shots from previous years to get you in the mood… whether you’re here for the party or just wondering what this world has come to!
