Petra Vlková & Sonic Playground @ U Staré Paní 30.1.2026
It takes two to tango, internationally a well known fact. And it takes three to get one of the best jazz bands in the republic on the road, not yet so internationally known, but they are getting there, if the Aussies just could stop nicking one of Europe’s best guitarists for many weeks on the row, it was about time to give him back, thank you! 😉 Yes I’m of course talking about Petra Vlková & Sonic Playground, Petra Vlková – voc; Libor Šmoldas – g; Mikuláš Pokorný – p. who finally, after a long break, was back on the road again at The Old Lady last night. After the long break, it would have been so easy to just rely on a familiar and safe setup. But then it would not have been Sonic Playground of course. Like most of us who follow the band know, one never knows what to expect when they enter the spotlight, more than it will be good, skillful, spellbinding and filled with emotions. That was exactly what we were served yesterday, and as normal when they are on the move, after the concert all of us walked home with the familiar stuppied grin in the face and feeling just like a million dollars.
The Digital Juggernauts
Almost a year has gone since Playgrounds first album release and my guess is that this might be the year when they break, maybe even a little outside the borders. The Playground has all it takes to make it work, the problem is like for every musician, that sometimes it’s nice to eat also, food I mean. All the streaming services and their similar bandits or maybe name them with what they really are, The Digital Juggernauts, has done a good job killing most of the live music and are with an ironfist controling the media, record sales etc. And in spite of that, thank god, we still have we still have this people called musicians that are fighting back, refusing to get in to the into the ready mold, because they have something they want to express, something that don’t fit The Digital Juggernauts mold, something you can hear, feel when they perform. Petra Vlková & Sonic Playground is one of the best example of this resistance, doing something they are not supposed to do, giving us jazz standards, not only “killing it” both with technical talent and effortless style, but filling it with love and emotions, something The Digital Juggernauts will never understand, but we, the audience understand, that’s why we keep on coming back, because we also have the love for the real music. Thank you Petra Vlková & Sonic Playground
, see you next time!
