BAD fills the premises…

THE Bebop band in the republic, forget the probably, filled the premises of Old Lady last night. Me being the naiv, hopeful romantic saw that as a sign that everything is not yet lost, on the contrary. Yes I’m aware that it was a Saturday night, the club is in the middle of the tourist center and the weather was not the best for a stroll downtown but…  Majority of the audience came for the music, how do I know? Because they were listening and most of them stayed until the end of the conert.  Most of the customers were local, there were very few tourists and those who were there were more than impressed with what they saw and heard. My Danish temporary acquaintance who was here visiting for the weekend with his girlfriend couldn’t believe the quality of the band, trying to figure out a way to extend his stay in the republic to get a chance for a follow up concert. I’m of course referring to Bohemia After Dark whom yesterday was with the following lineup;  Alice Bauer – voc ; Suzanne Higgins – sax; Benjamin “Ben” Hague – dr;  Andy Schofield – sax;  Osian Roberts – sax;  Taras Voloshchuk – b;  Stanislav Macha  – p; feat; Jake Newman – sax,

 

Without trying to repeat myself too much I’m very pleased to see that this virtuoso jazz ensemble is slowly getting the aprichation that they deserve, and why shouldn’t they. There’s the technical skill required for this fairly demanding genre of jazz music, You can also clearly hear the joy and love they have for their doing, which of course is far more important than any technical skill you might possess. In the seven years of this compound existens the bandleader Benjamin Hauge has learned how to keep a curb of the band members, in a positive way, and they are no longer a group performing, they are a team, and that’s why Old Lady was packed last night. That’s also why I’m hopeful, I have my doubts about the existence of live music but last night proved me totally wrong, again!  and also that made me feel really good. Thank you Bohemia After Dark
